Chillifest 2011
Kiddie Tractor Pull Winners Announced at Chillifest (Taylorville)—Winners have been announced in the 2011 Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest Kiddie Tractor Pull which took place on Sunday on the west side of the square.
In the Class One lightweight division, first place winner was Landon Bowsher of Stonington, 2nd place winner was Ayanna Jeffrey of Taylorville, and 3rd place winner was Aiden Jeffrey of Taylorville.
In the Class 2 middleweight division, first place winner was Cole Lush of Taylorville, 2nd place winner was Kade Beckmier of Taylorville, and 3rd place winner was Aiden Ervin of Edinburg.
And in the Class 3 heavyweight division, first place winner was Gabriel Jeffrey of Taylorville, 2nd place winner was Lance DeClerk of Stonington, and 3rd place winner was Cyler Cing-Mars of Chicago.
Winners in each category received a trophy. Larry Barry chaired the kiddie tractor pull, the classic tractor show, and the annual Chillifest Tractor Junket thru Christian County Sunday morning. Chillifest 5K Run Winners Announced
(Taylorville)—Winners have been announced in Saturday’s Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest 5K Run and Walk.
The event began on the southeast of the Taylorville square, just as Chillifest began on Saturday.

Sunday Chilli Cookoff Winners Announced at Chillifest
(Taylorville)--Winners were announced Sunday in the International Chilli Society Central States Regional cook-off competition, at the conclusion of the 26th annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
In the I-C-S chilli judging, first place winner was Jill Simmons of Missouri who won 500-dollars and a plaque, and also advances to the I-C-S World Championship. Second place winner was Lloyd Weir of Illinois, who won 200-dollars and a plaque; third place winner was Dearl Thomas of Illinois, who won 100-dollars and a plaque. Honorable mention in the chilli competition went to Mary Thomas of Illinois.
In the chilli verde competition Sunday at the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest, first place winner was Scott Barrett of Illinois, who won 200-dollars and a plaque. Second place winner was Georgia Weller of Illinois, who won 50-dollars and a plaque. Third place winner was Nick Groesch of Illinois, who won 25-dollars and a plaque.
In the salsa competition on Sunday, first place winner at the Taylorville Chamber Chillifest was Mike Goodman of Wisconsin, who won 100-dollars and a plaque. Second place went to Scott Barrett of Illinoi, who won 25-dollars and a plaque. Third place winner was Jeff Netser of Indiana who won a plaque.
The “best booth” award Sunday went to Jill Goldberg of Wisconsin, who won 100-dollars and a plaque.

Beautiful Baby Contest Held Sunday at Chillifest
(Taylorville)--35 of the most beautiful babies in Christian County, competed in the 8th annual Beautiful Baby Contest at the 26th annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest over the weekend.
The contest this year was not judged. Each baby who entered had a jar placed on a table at the event, and the 3 that raised the most money were the winners. All monies raised went towards the Chillifest event.
The top fund-raiser in the Beautiful Baby Contest was Brylan Sage Fortner, the 10-month-old son of Randi Brachear and Sammy Fortner. 2nd place winner was Karsen Beard, the 9-month-old son of Jessica Kearney and Jake Beard. 3rd place winner was Will Nolen, the 8-month-old son of Brett and Angie Nolen.
All 3 winners received 50-dollar savings bonds from the contest sponsor, People's Bank and Trust.

Chillifest Prize Raffle Winners Drawn Sunday (Taylorville)--Prize raffle winners were drawn Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the 2011 Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest on the square.
Monica Monts won a complete set of Home Tour Bone China Cups and Saucers from Carol Alexander. Susan Schmedeke won a 625-dollar one year family membership donated by the Christian County YMCA. Loran Yates won a 200-dollar gift certificate donated by Jensen Home Furnishings, and Ernest Irwin won a 180-dollar H-P tablet donated by Aaron's.
John Stephens won 2 tickets to the Michigan at Illinois football game November 12th, and Alexander Lumber Company won 2 tickets to the Wisconsin at Illinois footblal game November 19th. Both were donated by WTIM Newstalk 97.3.
Mary Renner won a 100-dollar digital thermostat donated by Blakley Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, while Alexander Lumber won a 50-dollar gift certificate donated by Big R.
25-dollar Chamber gift certificates donated by the Palmer Bank, were won by Tom Calvert and Loran Yates. Shirley Barns and Joe Kent each won 25-dollar gift certificates donated by Taco Bell.
Larry Peterson won a Chillifest Snack Bowl Full of Goodies from Del's Popcorn Shop.
A 4-pack of Big mac Extra Value Meals donated by McDonald's, were each won by Joe Kent, Kent Richardson, Marilyn Hopper, Dan McNeely, Tim Calvert, Linda Curtin, Jamie Becker, Clint Hornbuckle, Amanda Rankins, Tim Calvert, and Patty Hornbuckle.
Winners can pickup their prizes at the Chamber office during weekday business hours, 9am to 12 noon and 1pm to 5pm. Pony Tail Contest Winners Announced at Chillifest (Taylorville)--Girls from all over Christian County participated in the annual Pony Tail Contest sponsored by Karma Salon in Taylorville, on Sunday during the 26th annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
There were 3 age divisions: Up to age 4, ages 5 thru 8, and ages thru 12.
The winner in the division up to age 4 was 4-year-old Ivie Mills whose pony tail was some 18 inches long. Winning the 5 to 8-year-old division was 7-year-old Olivia Enlow with a pony tail that was 24-and-a-half inches long. And the winner in the 9 to 12-year-old division was 10-year-old Kierra Walter, who had a pony tail that was 29-and-a-half inches long. She also won the overall competition.
Each of the winners received a gift bag from the Karma Salon.
Saturday Winners in Chilli Judging Announced at Chillifest
(Taylorville)--Winners were announced in Saturday's International Chilli Society "Chillinois Regional" competition which took place at the first day of the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
In chilli judging, Jeff Netser won first place, which earned him 500-dollars and a plaque. Second place was won by Bob Dunn, who receive 200-dollars and a plaque. Third place in the chilli judging was Dearl Thomas, who receive 100-dollars and a plaqua.
In chilli verde judging Saturday at the Taylorville Chamber Chillifest, Aldo Klinghammer won first place, and received 200-dollars and a plaque. Second place winner was Julie Netzer who won 50-dollars and a plaque; Lloyd Weir won third place in the chilli verde judging and received 25-dollars and a plaque.
In salsa judging Saturday at the Taylorville Chamber Chillifest, Julie Netzer won first place and received 100-dollars and a plaque; Bob Hall won 2nd place and received 25-dollars and a plaque; Aldo Klinghammer won 3rd place and received a plaque.
Weir also received the showmanship plaque and 100-dollars.

-30- Chilli Eating Contest Held at Chillifest
Participants were given 4 bowls of chilli, and the first one that ate all 4 bowls within 10 minutes was the winner.
Participants included Logan Kohlrus from Del's Popcorn Shop, Steven Toberman from Aaron's, and Taylorville High School principal Bob Richardson.
Toberman won the contest, downing 4 bowls of chilli in just 2 minutes. He was presented with a trophy and will be given a special shirt compliments of the Taylorville Chamber.

Chillifest Crowns Little Miss, Little Mister Chilli Pepper Saturday
(Taylorville)--The Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest kicked off with its annual Little Miss and Little Mister Chilli Pepper pageant Saturday morning on the square.
15 boys and 25 girls participated in the pageant under beautifully blue skies.
The 2011 Little Miss Chilli Pepper is Milana Henson, the 5-year-old daughter of Bob and Amy Henson of Taylorville. First runner-up in the Little Miss Chilli Pepper contest is AnaLysa Marie Harden, the 6-year-old daughter of Charlotte and Todd Harden of Taylorville. Second runner-up named is Hayleigh Renee Manuel, the 6-year-old daughter of Kirby and Vanessa Manual of Pana.
The 2011 Little Mister Chilli Pepper is Landon Douglas Bowsher, the 4-year-old son of Doug and Tonya Bowsher of Stonington. First runner-up is Bryeson Tellor, the 6-year-old son of Tinelle Fronabarger of Owaneco. Second runner-up is Jackson Niehaus, the 4-year-old son of Maggie Humphrey and Kyle Niehaus of Taylorville.
Amy Kent of Morrisonville and Laura Hadley of Taylorville, co-chaired the pageant this year.

(Taylorville)--The Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest Committee held their organizational meeting Monday afternoon, May 16 at the Chamber board room.
Co-chairs for the 26th edition of the event, which takes place on the Taylorville square October 15 and 16, are Greg Hornbuckle and Kevin Flynn.
Chamber president and CEO Fred Ronnow said some of the favorite events will return, including delicious chilli being served by local chilli cooks, the Little Miss and Little Mister Chilli Pepper contests, and a Sunday classic tractor show.
The committee will hold monthly meetings until the event takes place. Their next meeting is Monday, June 20th at 5:30pm at the Chamber board room.
