  Winners Announced in remote control car races
|

One Stop Communications in Taylorville again sponsored remote control car races during last weekend's Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
After the competition had ended, winners were announced. First place winner was Tanner Mitchell, second place winner was Ryan Broglin, and third place winner was Jimmy Barry.

  POLITICANS SLING THE PIE |

5 candidates running in the Christian County Democratic primary next February, slung the pie during this year's Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest Pie-Eating contest Sunday on the Taylorville square.
Candidates for the Democratic nomination for Christian County Circuit Clerk--Liz Ellis, Julie Mayer, and Tonya Reno--were given 10 minutes to eat as much cherry pie as they could, along with the 2 candidates for the Democratic nomination for Christian County State's Attorney, Tom Finks and Dan Markwell.
Pies were provided by the Corner Bakery, which sponsored the event again this year. Michelle Mathon of the Corner Bakery, was the official judge and timer.
After 10 minutes of eating, Finks was declared the winner, having finished nearly 70% of his cherry pie.
This was the second year for the event at the Taylorville Chillifest.

The politicians were slinging cherry pie Sunday afternoon, during the annual Pie Eating Contest at the Taylorville Chillifest. Winner of the event was one of the 2 candidates for Christian County State's Attorney, incumbent Tom Finks. Pies were provided by the sponsor of the event, the Corner Bakery in Taylorville.

  SUNDAY CHILLI, SALSA COOK-OFF
WINNERS

36 chilli and salsa cooks from 10 different states, competed in Sunday's International Chilli Society Cook-offs at the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest on the Taylorville square. Saturday's cook-offs also attracted the same number from many states.
In Sunday's chilli judging, first place went to Diane Lentz of Nicholasville, Kentucky, who received $500 and a certificate, and earned the right to compete in the 2008 International Chilli Society Chilli Cook-off.
Second place in Sunday's chilli judging went to Jerry Simmons of Florissant, Missouri, who won $200 and a certificate. Third place winner was Jim Weller of Rockton, IL, who won $100 and a certificate. Fourth place winner was Lynn Virant of Omaha, Nebraska, who won a certificate, and fifth place went to Aldo Klinghammer of Taylorville, IL, who won a certificate.
Sunday's first place salsa winner was Larry Lentz of Nicholasville, Kentucky, who won $100 and a certificate. Second place winner was Charlie Ward from Fountain Mountain Home, Idaho, who won $25 and a certificate. Third place salsa winner was Chris Reck of Springfield, Illinois, who won a certificate.
Sunday's cook-offs culminate 2 days of chilli and salsa competition at the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.

  BEAUTIFUL BABY CONTEST
WINNERS NAMED

58 of Christian County's most beautiful babies, participated in the annual Beautiful Baby Contest during the 2nd day of the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest Sunday on the Taylorville square. The contest was sponsored again this year by People's Bank and Trust.
Contestants competed in 4 age categories--0-11 months, one-year-olds, 2-year-olds, and 3-year-olds. 3 semi finalists were chosen from each category, then 2nd runner-up, first runner-up, and most beautiful baby were chosen from the 12.
This year's Baby Contest winner was 3-year-old Lexie Lenover, the daughter of Joshua and Rebecca Lenover. Lexie won a $100 savings bond from People's Bank and Trust.
First runner-up was 3-year-old Bart Heimsness II, the son of Ray and Amanada Heimsness. He received a $75 savings bond from People's Bank and Trust.
Second runner-up was Johnathon Smith, the 2 1/2-month-year-old son of Angelina Smith. Johnathon received a $50 savings bond from People's Bank and Trust.

Nearly 40 chilli and salsa cooks from all over the country, competed in the International Chilli Society competition during the first day of the 2-day Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
First-place winner in the chilli competition was Larry Lentz, who received $500 and a certificate, and earned the right to compete in the 2008 International Chilli Society world cook-off.
Second place winner was Paul Wessing, who received $200 and a certificate.
Third place winner was Lynn Virant, who received $100 and a certificate.
Fourth place winner, who received a certificate, was Larry Eastep, and fifth place winner who also received a certificate, was Greg Virant.
In the salsa competition, first place winner was Diane Lentz, who received $100 and a certificate.
Second place salsa winner, who received $25 and a certificate, was Linda Carroll, and third place winner who received a certificate, was Mike Goodman.

  CHILLIFEST OLDYWED GAME WINNERS |

3 Taylorville couples vied for the title of winner of the "Oldywed Game" during the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest on Saturday on the Taylorville square.
Questions were posed to the 3 couples, about their many years of marriage.
Third place winners were Dan and Pat Reese of Taylorville, who have been married 51 years.
Second place winners were Jim and Rita Altman of Taylorville, who have been married over 34 years.
First place winners were Randy and Terri France of Taylorville, who have been married 19 years.
The contest was sponsored by the One East Market Restaurant in Taylorville, that provided the winner a gift certificate good at the restaurant.

  PET CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED |

9 pets competed for the "Cutest Pet" during the Pet Contest sponsored by the Wal-Mart Super-Center, at the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
Third place winner was Oscar, a miniature Chihuahua dog, owned by Katie Hepburn.
Second place winner was Isabelle, a part- Dachshund , part-Yorkie dog owned by Jessica Oyler.
First place winner was Princess, a Morkie dog owned by Kayla and Nicole Borgic.
All 3 winners received $25 gift certificates from the Taylorville Wal-mart Super-Center.

Entries came from all over Christian County, for this year's Little Miss Chilli Pepper contest at the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.
Selected second runner-up was Kelley Mink, the 4-year-old daughter of Jon and Melinda Mink of Taylorville. Keeley attends Pre-Kindergarten at Central School in Taylorville.
First runner-up was Faith Maxwell, the 5-year-old daughter of Robin Maxwell of Taylorville. Faith is a kindergartener at West Elementary School in Taylorville.
The new Little Miss Chilli Pepper is Senora Stare, the 5-year-old daughter of Russell and Rebecca Stare of Taylorville. Senora attends kindergarten at West School in Taylorville.

NAMES LITTLE MISTER CHILLI PEPPER

A new Little Mister Chilli Pepper was named Saturday during the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest on the Taylorville square.
Entries came from all over Christian County for the honor of "Little Mister Chilli Pepper," and second runner-up was Tyson Casad, the 4-year-old son of Eric and Lindsay Casad of Edinburg. Tyson attends Pre-Kindergarten at Edinburg.
First runner-up was Jaden Thomas Graham, the 5-year-old son of Jeff and Tara Graham of Stonington.
The new Little Mister selected was Izac Virden, the 4-year-old son of Michael and Joni Virden of Pana. Izac attends Pre-Kindergarten at Pana Christian Church.

Winners were named Saturday morning in the 22nd annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest Junior Miss Chilli Pepper pageant. Entries came from all over Christian County to participate.
Named Miss Congeniality was Charity Murphy, the 7-year-old daughter of Stephanie and Leroy Murphy of Taylorville. Stephanie is a first grader at West School in Taylorville.
Second runner-up was 7-year-old Breanna Matthews, daughter of Pam and Greg Matthews of Taylorville, who is a first grader at Memorial School in Taylorville.
First runner-up was Kamilla Mae Allen, the 7-year-old daughter of Stephen and Adrianna Allen of Taylorville. Kamilla is a 2nd grader at Memorial School in Taylorville.
And named Junior Miss Chilli Pepper was Nicole Rexroad, the 7-year-old daughter of Shelly and Shawn Rexroad of Taylorville. Nicole is a 2nd grader at North Elementary School in Taylorville.
